12 Tips to help your pets feel young forever
Dogs do get old with time just like any other animals and there's nothing that can be done about it. Turning it around is something that's not possible. However, there are certain ways to help them slow down the process and make them feel young. It’s one of the best things that you can do to get appreciated by your dog and make him feel special.

1) A good healthy diet: It’s always good to feed your dog with a good and healthy diet from his puppy days itself. If you haven’t, you can start it now because it’s never too late. Contact a vet regarding the same and ask for the best dog diets. Accordingly, you can choose between a home cooked meal that contains meat and vegetables or you can purchase good high quality packed food that contains natural and whole ingredients. Going for a diet that is specifically made for senior dogs, is not necessary, but you need to cut down the amount of proteins and fats in the dog's diet. Fresh water is very good and should be available for old dogs so that they remain well hydrated.
2) Vitamins for vitality: Dogs that have attained adulthood need to be given specific vitamins and different nutrients so that they can maintain their good health as time goes by and can also deal with the age-related problems. It is very important to consult a vet before opting for any supplements because each dog is different and would require different vitamins and nutrients. They include antioxidants, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, fatty acids, digestive enzymes and glucosamine MSM and chondriotin. These supplements take care of various joint diseases, hip dysplasia and arthritis.
3) Vaccines should be limited: May it be related to young or old dogs, over-vaccination is never good. It can cause several diseases that include liver and kidney problems, dermatitis and thyroid problems and many more. Most of the vaccines that dogs are normally given are meant to protect and keep illness away for about 3 whole years and sometimes more. Keeping that in mind, annual boosters are not necessary at all. Instead of that, a titter test must be done instead.
4) Keep your dogs mind sharp: When time goes by and with the increase in our age, all of us tend to decrease the activities related to our mind. It’s the same with dogs too. Make your dog keep his mind active by giving him new toys and keeping him busy. This is very important because dogs tend to lose memory with time and making them exercise and socialize is something that will decrease this memory loss.
5) Always keep him on the move: Dogs love running around when they are young but get lazy as they start growing old. No matter how old he may be, he will always need some amount of exercise to keep his body fit. He should be taken for a walk every now and then, this improves his blood circulation. Keep updated about everything that is happening around him and take in clear fresh air.
6 ) Socialization is important: Dogs should always be allowed to mix around with other dogs even if they are old because running around and keeping themselves busy is something that will keep them active. Dogs love attention on a normal basis, but they love it even more when they get old. Interaction with their kind is vital to keep them active and alert.
7) Keep his teeth clean: Periodontal disease can affect dogs of all ages. It should be dealt with in time to keep them away from gingivitis, tooth loss and other infections. The disease can travel further, affecting the kidneys and other organs. Clean your dog's teeth with a toothpaste and brush for dogs to keep him away from the diseases. A good diet is also important to maintain good dental health of your dog.
8) Take him to the vet: As time goes by and your dog gets old, take him to the vet more often so that he can be checked and tested whenever required. With time, dogs end up acquiring several diseases related to the kidney, liver, etc.
9) Avoid Chemical pest control: Using collars and powders that have chemicals in them, should be avoided as they can affect your dog by weakening his immune system. Natural powders, shampoos and sprays should be used as they are completely safe and gentle on the dogs.
10) Good hygiene: It doesn’t matter how young or old a dog is, good hygiene is very important for all of them. Skin problems and allergies are something that dogs need to stay away from. Old dogs have a higher chance of acquiring these problems. Bathe your dog on a regular basis with good quality natural shampoo to keep him clean and keep him away from itching, odor and shedding. Combing your dog with a good and soft brush is a good way to improve his circulation.
11) Lots of love: Love is what keeps them going - no matter what age they are. During their old age, dogs should be given more attention and love. It is necessary to pamper them with everything they like. Talking to your dog from time to time and playing with him is one of the best ways to show that you love him.
12) Understand him: When they are old, dogs start getting irritated for no reason at all. At this stage, it is important to understand and take good care of them.
A little extra effort from your end can keep your dog feel younger and better active than his age and also spend its last days in a beautiful manner.
