There are plenty of things that you should consider before getting your cat and after it as a novice or even if you are experienced pet owner. Here are 7 things that you should take care of:

1. Deciding if you really want a cat

Leave aside the difference of a cat and dog persons, we are talking about deciding whether you need a pet at all? As you cannot and should not take a pet only to return it afterward, give thought to the prospect of having a living being who will want your time, attention and space in your home.

2. Considering the expenses

While many people consider that there won't be much difference in their budget if they happen to adopt a 'small' cat, they couldn't be more wrong. There are a lot expenses, including the 'surprises' which will need money.

3. Avoid physical punishment

A cat by nature does not tolerate any physical punishment and you stake your relationship with it if you do so. Why take the risk? As a new pet owner resist this temptation and teach your cat some new tactics.

4. Failure to spay or neuter the cat

Many new cat owners spend so many night troubled with their female cats' howling and male cat's aggressiveness and fights because they did not consider it important to spay or nueter their feline pet. By all means do it so you can avoid being surprised by unwelcomed new guests.

5. Declawing

Do not declaw your cat just because you find it an easier option than training good manners to your cat. Make a scratching post where the cat can scratch as much as it wants without ruining your home. The claws are important for your pet and it is cruel to remove them.

6. Not completely following the Veterinary's advice

A veterinary is a qualified doctor for your pet and you should take his/her advice as you would take the advice of any other doctor, i.e., seriously. Follow the full procedures, be particular about medicines and vaccinations.

Before you buy your cat get it thoroughly checked by a vet to avoid any mishaps later. The test, apart from physical checkup can include blood, urine, and stool test. If the vet advices then get these tests done.

7. Don't go for cheap food for you cat

The cat food that are cheap don't usually contain enough proteins that your pet needs. Cat is a carnivore and it needs meat protein. Good food brands supply these needs through meat and non vegetarian while cheap brands use corn or grains which are not what the cat requires. Survey and make a wise decision while getting good food for you cat and do stress on good quality and not just saving some of your bucks.
