1. Use a fence

In case your house is facing the road or has a busy road nearby, you can keep your dog inside a fence with enough space for him to walk. This is the simplest solution to prevent him from venturing out onto the road and chasing cars.

2. Walk the dog to less crowded places

In case you take your dog out for a walk and make him run without a leash, make it a point that you go to a less crowded place or a place where there is no accessibility to a road. You can take your dog to a park or a more silent place.3. Pop balloons at the dog

The way you can train your dog is to pop balloons at him when he or she follows a car. You can do this by sitting in an unknown car and as you pass by the dog, and he runs after the car, you can pop a balloon at him. This will scare him. Gradually the dog will start associating the sound that scares him to chasing cars.

4. Gift him toys

Give your dog plenty of toys to play with. Try giving toys that are noisy in nature so that the dog has some other noise to distract himself and chase after, rather than running after the car that can claim his life as well.5. Get the dog used to different environments

Train your dog in all kinds of environments. Generally when we train our dog, it is at a peaceful place where it is possible for the dog to concentrate on what we are saying. However, when you take your dog out for a walk and it runs after the cars you are left wondering what happened to your training. It happens because while you were training your dog, it could concentrate on you; but in a crowded and noisy place, your commands are not heard because the dog is already distracted with whatever is going around. So, when you train your dog, take it to some traffic signal as well so that it learns the lesson very well there as well.

6. Make the dog exercise

Make your dog run and exercise a lot. This will release his pent up energy. He will not find much of amusement in running after cars, then. You can use the basic trick of making it run after a ball when you throw the ball .

7. Teach the dog a reliable recall

Teach your dog a reliable recall. He should react to your recall not only when inside the house or at a calm place; but also when on roads and with a lot of vehicles round. This will train your dog to react to the recall the moment you call out, no matter where it is or how noisy or distracting the place is.
