Seven bird species that mimic human speech to perfection

African Grey

This particular variety of bird is known for its excellent talking skills. It resembles human voice to such close precision that it often becomes difficult to segregate its voice from that of five years old kid. The birds of this variety are extremely intelligent and observant in nature which enables them to mimic almost any human voice. This is also the reason they demand more training and discipline. There are generally three types of African Grey – Congo, West Ghana and the Timneh. The first one is the largest in size, having body weight as much as 450 grams or above, while the last variety is of the smallest size. While in captivity, they require wider cage with narrower bar spacing so that they cannot slip their heads from within. They are extremely friendly.

Yellow-Naped Amazon

This is a variety of Amazon parrots that is literally facing extinction due to deforestation. This variety can mimic almost every sound, thus human voice is no exception in that regard. The distinguishable feature of this bird is its green colored crown and forehead and a band of yellow that runs all along its neck. The beak is dark grey with paler base and it has dark grey feet too. It is friendly, playful and extremely talkative, which is why it is one of the most sought after pets. A matured bird grows up to 15 inches long and has a life expectancy of above 60 years.

Hill Myna

Hill Myna, another variety of bird facing the threat of extinction, is remarkable for its advanced vocal skills. Among the twelve different species of Hill Mynas, some varieties are more excellent talkers than the others. They prefer living in dense hill forests that have high percentage of rainfall and humidity. Other than flight, hill mynas resolve into a sidewise hopping method for moving from one tree branch to the other. Along with talking, they also do gurgling and shrill whistling. They have shiny black plumages that reflect rainbow colors when sunlight falls on them. Baby hill mynas resemble their adults but the coats are not shiny at all.

Budgie

This seed eating bird is a variety of parakeet that is small in size with long tail. These are the original inhabitants of Australia. They have light green body with black markings on their mantle with yellow undulations. While the adults have yellow forehead and face the young ones have black strips along their noses. The plumage of these birds reflect colors under ultraviolet light, which is mostly seen during mate selection and courtship. They have the ability to adopt different types of vocabularies. When the budgies are young they have more capacity to pick up human vocabulary. Budgies talk more when their bonds with their owners are stronger.

Quakers

These are the lovable tiny parrots that are very friendly to humans. They are also regarded as Quake Parakeets or Quaker Parrots. They originally belonged to the extreme south eastern parts of Brazil. They have a length of 11 to 12 inches on an average with body weight of 90 to 120 grams. They have green body with a pale grey hint on their head, cheeks, throat and along their chest. One variety of quaker has blue color on their tails and flight feathers too. The young ones look much like the adult birds, but their coat is dull. They are intelligent, comical and pleasing and live for 25 to 30 years on an average.

Indian Ringneck Parrots

The beautiful color and the excellent talking skills of this variety of birds make it a part of the royal aviary heritage. These birds are extremely strong and disease resistant birds. They are independent in nature due to which they love to be kept within themselves, perched on branches rather than being handled by humans. They can be excellent domestic birds and prefer to stay alone than with any other birds. They can be fed almost any kinds of human food. They are tropical birds is the variety of parakeet species, which can grow up to a length of 16 inches on an average. The adult males have a red ring around their neck which is absent in the females and the young ones.

Eclectus Parrots

This is a parrot native to the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, northeastern Australia and Maluku Islands. The males have emerald green colored plumage with a yellow tint on their head. The females have bright red or purple and blue combinations in their plumage. These birds mainly feed on fruits, flowers, wild figs and unripe nuts. Pet parrots feed on almost all types of fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. The average lifespan of these birds are mostly unknown.
