How to take care of dog with diabetes?

My dog was recently tested positive for diabetes. The vet prescribed him shots of Vetsulin every 12 hours. But he didn’t tell me about other things like diet and stuff. I have no clue what can I do now to take care of my dog. What kind of dog food should I give to the dog with diabetes? What are the activities that my dog can do in diabetes? Do I need to take note of anything extra that I have to do for my dog? How can I take care of my dog with diabetes? I would really appreciate your useful information regarding this. Thanks.

It is a fact that dogs who suffer from canine diabetes require special care. There are certain tips that if followed systematically can help to take care of a diabetic dog:

1. The initial requirement is to look for a trustworthy veterinarian. It is important to get the blood sugar tested often. Make sure that the dog gets insulin shots in varying doses. This can enable it to stabilize blood sugar.

2. Insulin if given as an injection would be best. It requires inserting the needle under the skin. Most dogs wont yelp.

3. It is equally important to maintain a routine. A diabetic dog demands feeding around at a a a particular time on routine basis.

4.Make sure that you always carry an emergency kit on hand. By this you can quickly raise a dog's blood sugar with just a few drops on the tongue.

Stay alert to changes in your dog's behavior. Make a note of these changes to your vet to get the best treatment accordingly.

I hope that these tips would enable you to take proper care of the diabetic pet. Stay healthy
