How to take care of rabbits as pets?

I am planning to buy a pair of rabbits for home, and I have taken necessary precautions for it, including rabbit proofing my house! I am all set to get them home the coming weekend and I am really excited about it. I want to know a few tips on rabbit care, as none of my friends or people in my acquaintance have rabbits as pets. Therefore, I am quite concerned about my rabbit care. Can somebody please advice of certain useful measures in this concern? I would really appreciate your replies. Thanks.

That’s really great if you are planning to adopt rabbits as pets. Rabbit care involves certain special tips and measures. Whatever the breed you take, it is important to take proper care. Moreover, bringing up a rabbit is fun and relatively easy.

Here are certain beneficial tips to take proper care of your rabbits:

1. Be well aware of the breed that you are planning to own. It is important to make provisions for a sleeping house inside the hutch. This would be great for privacy of the pet.

2. Make sure that you feed a diet of certified rabbit pellets and timothy hay. Giving hay in the morning and fresh greens at night is highly recommended. Provide solid hardwood toys to chew on. This would prevent over growth of the incisors.

3. It is important to litter train the rabbits by placing a litter pan with litter in each corner available to the pet. It is known that they urinate in corners by nature. You can also get the special corner litter pans.

4. You must know that rabbits possess a strong sex drive. This can make them aggressive with other pets.

5. Cleanliness is important. Make sure that you clean the hutch regularly.

6. Socialize them with other pets in the home. Isolation causes stress and possible illness.

7. Make sure that you groom a rabbit with a soft bristled brush. Be with them as they get afraid to be alone.
