How are the chinchillas as pets?

My thirteen year old son is continuously nagging me to get him a pair of chinchillas but I am not sure about it. I am quite apprehensive about their temperament but still I would like to have some insights from you, please tell me how are the chinchillas as pets? Any information is highly appreciated, thanks so much.

Chinchillas have a condition, the teeth of this breed that need to worn down due to the fact that their teeth grows continuously, which might prevent your chinchilla to eat properly. To keep a check and the insane growth of their teeth they can use wooden sticks and pumice stone.

The chinchillas require superior care. They don’t sweat much. And make sure that chinchilla can suffer a heat stroke if the temperatures get above 25 degree Celsius.  Chinchillas can be found in variety of colors. I have a standard gray; other colors are white, black, beige, ebony and violet.

Chinchillas can digest desert grass and sometimes find it hard to process fatty food so make sure that you don’t give such food to your chinchillas.
