How do you get your dog to go through pet doors?

Pet doors are something which every house with a pet requires. I just shifted and the house I am staying in does not have a pet door. I want to know what size a pet door should be so I can get it made. Is it safe to have a pet door? How to you get the dog to go throw the pet door. My dog is Pomeranian and he is used to waiting for the door to be opened. He is 6 months old and if I get the pet door made now, how do I train him to go through it?

Helping your dog into a pet door is always regarded as the mostdaunting task of all the time. Now if you would ask me then I must tell youthat I also faced a tough time with my english bulldog to make him pass throughthe pet door.

As far as my experience speaks I would say that it will require alot of positive reinforcement training to make your pet pass the pet door, which really looks intimidating. The pets sometimes become very stubborn. Theydon’t want to learn new things. Andsince you have mentioned that you have a Pomeranian with you then as far as myknowledge goes they are easy pups who are not at all hard on people when itcomes to training them.

But some Pomeranian are by default nasty to people in every aspect beit training or anything. So the best way is, as I mentioned earlier, to teachand train the pet with positive reinforcement, which includes whenever the puptries to pass the door successfully shower love and affection on them and givethem their favorite treat which will help them to give this type of desired behaviormore and more, because somewhere in their mind they will form the picture that theywill be rewarded by the specific behavior which in this case is passing throughthe door.

Hope it helps.
