50 per cent of Japan's dogs are 'senior citizens'!

Nearly fifty per cent of pet dogs in Japan are senior citizens i.e. over seven years of age. Pets are having a gala time in Japan, courtesy - drastic drop in human birthrate, giving rise to less competition in life. Now owners have plenty of time to shower love, time and money on their pets. And this is the main cause behind lifestyle ailments amongst aged pets.

It has triggered the pet product market but has given a new dimension to pet wellness business, ranging from swimming exercises to medical evaluation and care. The Yoga animal hospital in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward receives about 40 pets suffering form lifestyle-related complications.

We reap what we sow. Pets, being closer to us than ever before, have overtaken our lackadaisical lifestyle. Dogs are having their day in Japan, but at what cost?
