After Americans, Australians get luxurious for their pets

After Americans, Australians too love their pets. And they are comfortable and even happy to spend big cash on their pets. Australians are believed to spend more on their pets than on foreign aid. In 2003, according to the Australia Institute more than $2.2 billion was spent on pets.

Its report which has been titled, Over-consumption of Pet Food in Australia, marks out these designer pet items like diamond jewellery, sleeping bags, breath fresheners etc. In Australia six out of every 10 households owns a pet. And the trend continues to rise, owners are indulging in everything from gourmet food to designer outfits for their pets. It is even possible to get a cosmetic surgery for your pets. There has been a change in pet owner relationship and they are more affectionate than before. Australia has more than 13 million pet owners. There are a lot of pet services available and Australians don't mind to spend for those.
