Bill to permit dogs in outdoor cafes advances
Dog owners in Chicago have a reason to rejoice. Very soon their favourite poodle or dane can accompany them to lunch, if they choose to eat in an outdoor cafe.

A legislation is being considered by the Illinois House which says dogs can accompany owners at outdoor cafes. The bill sponsored by John Fritchey,State Rep (D-Chicago), has already passed the Senate earlier this month. And as the legislation only applies to cities with populations over a million, only Chicago qualifies for it.
Indoor restaurants are not covered by this bill and restaurant would have to comply with health codes and can deny service to a dog owner if the animal's behavior is threatening for either the staff or diners.
The bill is also not applicable to service animals like guide dogs, which are already permitted in restaurants under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
