You can call it pets' Winter Olympics, and why not when 200 owners and their four-legged teammates will participate in the 11th annual Sun Dog's K-9 Uphill at Buttermilk today, the event coupled with enthusiasm and power will parallel 'Citius, Altius, Fortius', meaning 'Swifter, Higher, Stronger'.

The event celebrates dog ownership at the end of the season and the ice will melt under the conquerors' feet through the two-mile uphill course that starts at the base of Buttermilk and ascends some 2,000 vertical feet to the top of the east summit.

Erik Skarvan, Director of the event and Sun Dog Athletics owner said:

It's really fun to see people come out who normally wouldn't take part in an uphill race. This is more of an uphill festival. We've had entire families coming out, with kids and grandparents. This is very doable, even for those who have basic aerobic fitness.

The whole event, along with recreational activities, turn out to be a wonderful experience both for the pets and the owners. Even shelter dogs are not left behind, they're invited to participate in the event and it's truly commendable.
