Dog Fur Sales on the rise: Who's the main culprit?

Posted By: Vikas Shekhawat | Mar 5 2006

I discussed about the dog meat industry in my earlier posts and today I'd like to highlight a different aspect of the industry, but this time it's not China but Korea. Steve published an interesting article in Dogginews about the sale of dog fur coat on eBay with a price tag of £50 and it read: "Fur coat - Korean dog".

The issue first raised by the First The Daily Mirror, after being informed by a visitor. It's shocking that the sale of dog fur is permissible in the UK.

A spokeswoman for PETA claimed that:

"People who choose to wear fur of any kind should be aware that they are directly responsible for a great deal of unnecessary animal suffering."

I completely agree with Steve going after the fur industry will not solve any purpose as the fur is a by-product of dog meat industry and if we've to stop the trade, first the dog meat industry has to be shut down and that's only possible if the deep rooted cultural beliefs and poverty is positively addressed. Around 6,000 Korean restaurants serve dog meat and for that they kill around two million dogs every year.

Thanks: Steve
