How to Keep Dogs from Digging up all the grass?

Are you fed up of your dog digging to the bottom of things? Perhaps if you are a dog owner, you must be used to little holes scattered around the garden. Before we discuss the techniques that can prevent your digging dog from destroying your beautiful lawn, let us first accept the fact that dogs do not dig to destroy things; they do so for different reasons. A veterinary doctor or a dog trainer would better explain the reason behind this trait of canines.

The easiest way to prevent grass from being dug by your pet dog is to give him an exclusive space to dig. This is a win-win situation. However, if you have space limitations, certain dog training techniques can be implemented to prevent your dog from digging.

If your dog is getting bored, he may resort to digging. Keeping your dog entertained is a good way to save your lawn from turning into a mine field. Dog training activities can stimulate your pet dog. Insects and rodents may also attract dogs into digging holes. Check for the presence of such creatures in your garden or yard. Air balloons can also be used to prevent your dog from digging. You can simply fill up a few air balloons and put them in those areas of your lawn or yard where your dog frequents for digging. The sound produced when the balloons blow up (while your dog is busy digging) might scare your dog. This method should be adopted only when other techniques bear no fruit.

Do you have a kennel or dog house? Dogs also dig if they want to escape from heat or moisture. In other words, your dog might dig to warm himself up or cool himself down. It is, therefore, important to provide a clean shelter to your dog. Does your dog destroy the grass in your shaded front yard? Using grass seeds with fertilizer can accelerate the growth of grass in the desired area.
