We listen, talk and write about the sluggish economy and the hard times ahead. But the stats with regard to spending on pets that I came accross recently was just mind-boggling.

According to a recent survey, pet spending in America has doubled from $17bn in 1994 to $34bn in 2004, and it's still on the rise. Per year, on an average, pet owners spend $14.5bn on pets' food, $8.6bn on their health, $8.8bn on supplies and medicine...the list is endless.

It is clear that pet owners have given a new definition to the relationship they share with their pets. Even during tough times, they are with you to melt all your worries. They are more like our children rather than a lump of flesh sitting in a corner and wagging their tails.
