Ordinance to check pet population
Animal care is given a new definition in El Paso, Texas. The new ordinance, introduced by the City-County Health District, aims at checking unwanted pet population and ultimately improve animal care standards in El Paso.

Pet owners would need to get their animals micro-chipped for easier record keeping and vaccinate their pets for rabies within a stretch of three years. The ordinance also states to help curb the stray animal population. As per the new law, a person is considered to have ownership of an animal if he provides care for 72 consecutive hours. Pet owners with five or more animals are now not required to get a special $45 permit.
The ordinance will not only ensure pet safety and care and also reduce the number of pets euthanized every year.
