Kathryn Williams, City Council Member is also hoping people pay more attention to how dangerous the summer heat can be for pets.

Police say that they want to make people aware of the consequences as one dog has already died this year because of sweltering.

While not all dogs can enjoy the luxury of air conditioning police, say they should have proper shade outside, plenty of water and they do not have to be locked in hot cars.

The police ask if you see an animal locked in a car and in distress to call 911 immediately.
