Training your dog not to bark

Posted By: Vikas Shekhawat | Mar 3 2006

I just love when my pooch makes that dulcet noise and simply run leaving everything behind to pay attention what he really wants. But excessive dog barking may spin mind of few of my friends out there. Don't worry, it's natural for a dog to bark and even easier is to take him out of it so that he doesn't make it a regular affair.

Most of the time the barking comes in case the dog feels that his territory is in danger. Just teach him to follow the word 'quite' by repetitive doses of training and you'll be surprised to see him mum the moment you utter the word. But do keep patience; he may take time to pick it up.

You can even offer him treats as soon he stops barking and hence luring him the way you want but don't treat him for barking or he'll just go on and on. Sometimes, they may bark to attract you, just to feel your hand or play with you. You've to be very understanding to win him.
