Rat terriers are considered great watchdogs and companions to their masters. Very brave, energetic and lively, they will definitely keep your house safe. Your rat terriers will be great companions for you provided you train them properly. You will find that your rat terriers, even with their small size, are fearless and show the true colors of a terrier. This breed is generally suggested for a single person home. But rat terriers are not recommended for a large family as they have the tendency to become destructive without proper stimulation. They also love to roam and wander providing much stress to an extended family.
If you are staying in an apartment house, you rat terriers will be okay provided they get at least 30-40 minutes of exercise per day. They require a fairly good amount of exercise and need to be taken for a daily long walk or trot. They are also very active indoors and it would be good idea if you can provide them at least a small yard to romp in. With good training and protection, you can also let them spend a lot of time outdoors without any worries. They love to play and you are definitely going to fall in love in them.
