life vest for dogs

If my dog is going to start swimming with me, do you think I need to buy him a life vest? I know that dogs are natural swimmers, and I would like to take my dog out to the see too. So if I had to do that would it only be possible if he had a life jacket. Would the dog still be able to swim in heavy tides?

its not completely true that all dogs are good swimmers this is only a miss under standing because of the swimming style named as dog paddle , but then it all depends on the breed of the dog and its willingness .

  1. The breed of the dog is important because the dog with low fat content such as greyhound and whippets do not like swimming , their low fat content makes it difficult to keep up the body temperature so for theses dogs I would prefer using a vest ,but for dogs such as Labrador and retrievers the life jackets are not much of a need if u ask me unless the dog is old or sick or not in shape .
  2. The place where you plan to swim also makes a lot of effect on whether or not to use a vest ,swimming in high tides is going to be very difficult for pets that why I would suggest that you use a vest while swimming in fast moving rivers ,high tides ,currents ,etc.
  3. I personally feel spending a few bucks on the safety of our companion is not that big a thing to think so much about , I would suggest that you buy a vest so that when you go swimming u can be relaxed not worrying about your pets safety .
