Moving from the harness to pet collars!

My pup was walking with a harness till now. He is seven months and I think it is time to move onto the pet collars. I wish I could keep on the harness, it seems to keep the dog in control more than a collar. What pointers would you give for someone who is moving onto the collar? I am not sure how my cocker spaniel would react to the collar. I got her one and she still looks at the harness. It took me a lot of time to get her used to the harness. Is it necessary to train the dog for a collar?

This is a common problem of each and every pet owner. And the solution is not a complex one. All you need to do with your doggie friend is, first of all don’t make him wear the collar immediately and for a longer period of time, this tends to make the doggies feel irritated irrespective of their breed. Make the cocker spaniel wear collar for 2 minutes and then shower lots of love on him and you can also give him one or two of his favorite treats when he wears the collar without creating any problems.

This will act as a positive reinforcement. The dog will then slowly and steadily understand that wearing collar is a good thing which shall make it earn lots of love and treats. And then possibly he won’t create any problems in wearing the collar.

And make sure that if your four legged friend has a habit to chew his collar then get a chew proof collar for him which will not only save your money but most importantly protect your pet’s health because the collars are made of some material which if gone inside your pet can create a problem. Lupine pet company is a good dog collar supplier which produces chew resistant collars. Hope it helps. Good luck
