What can I do to keep older dogs from becoming fat dogs?

I have a dog that is 12 years old and getting fat day by day. I like dog being fat but at this age it creating problem for my dog. He is not active as he was. I know it could be because of age as well but I think his over weight problem is majorly responsible for his lethargy. What can I do to stop this? What can I do to keep older dogs from becoming fat dogs? Can someone tell me about some useful solution pertaining to my query? I would really appreciate. Thanks.

Yes, it is true. The old dogs are predisposed of getting on the fatter side. This condition of old dogs happens due to several reasons. Firstly, the old dogs are more lethargic when we compare to the young ones and the normal adults. The dogs which are elderly tend to be slower in every aspect of life. It is akin to the normal human beings, wherein, as the humans, us, get aged our sense of understanding and activeness gets diminished to appreciable lengths. The lackadaisical attitude becomes more pronounced in some of the doggie breeds like cocker spaniel, beagles and cairn terriers.

Moreover, it is the pet master’s psychology that they tend to feed the old pets a lot, considering that they will be kicking the bucket in a short period of time, which also contributes to their weight. So my advice to you is, give the pet some good and healthy chicken soup or stock, which will be filling plus healthy. And quit giving your pet all those tasty, yet unhealthy, treats and snacks which can form up a recipe of disaster for your pet doggie. The old dogs cannot run and play like the young adult doggies, the old doggies has some problem with their physical conditions and moreover, mental state, with which they become demotivated. I really hope the information is of some help.
