How to keep your pet cool this summer
If you are a pet lover or if you want to adopt any pet in your house then the first and foremost thing is that you must know how to take care of your pet. But most of the times people do not know how to take proper care of their pets. Pets can not express their problems like human being, so if you do not know how to take care of your pet then it can suffer in silence from various problems. The regime of taking care of your pet can vary from season to season. Generally, most of the pets suffer from various problems especially in hot summers as their body is covered with thick fur. They can not even breathe properly during this season. If you want to maintain your pet in a proper way then you must try to keep them cool and comfortable during these hot months. Different ways are there by which you can keep your pet cool during the hot summers. Here are a few tips by which you can keep your pet cool in hot summers too.

1. Administer cold drinking water
Drinking sufficient quantity of cool drinking water is the most important thing for your pet to combat the heat of summer. There are high chances that your pet may suffer from severe dehydration due to lack of water in body and rising up temperature. You must try to arrange for some fresh and cool drinking water nearby so that they can always have an access cool drinking water whenever required.
2. Do not leave your pet outside
You must take special attention towards your pet so that it cannot go outside your home, especially during the daytime of the hot summers. If your pet lives in its kennel, outside of your home, then you must make a shelter which provides it enough shade and good ventilation. It is better to keep your pet inside your room especially on the hottest noon.
3. Do not allow your pet to stroll outside under direct sunlight
You must try to avoid your pet from coming in contact with direct sunlight. You must try to go for a walk with your pet only during the early morning or evening hour, so that the direct sunlight does not affect your pet. If you stroll with it during daytime, it is better to make it walk on the grass instead of heated pitch road. If you realize that your pet feel is having discomfort or heat exhaustion while walking then you must immediately cool it down. Other wise it might create several problems.
4. Take special care for young, old and overweight pets
If your pet is very young, very old or over weight, then you must take special care because they will be more susceptible to heat exhaustion during the hot weather. They even suffer more from heat stroke. You need to seek immediate medical treatment if your pets suffers from heat stoke.
5. Use fan for bringing down the temperature
You must try to cool down the temperature of the room where your pet lives. For this purpose you can attach a fan in that room so that air can be circulated, which can help to cool down the temperature of the room. If your bed room has an air conditioner then you can also allow your pet to live them in your bed room during the hottest days in the summer.
6. Use wet towel for cool down the pet’s body temperature
If your pet becomes over heated then you can rub its body with wet towel or put your pet in a tub of water to cool down its body temperature. You must try to bathe your pet at least three to four days per week during the hot season.
7. Cut or shave the body hair during hot summer
If your pet has long fur then you can cut or trim the fur during the hot summers. But you must never shave it all from its body. The fur protects the body from the sunlight, so complete removal of fur may be detrimental. If you want to cut the pet’s body hair then you might take them in any professional groomer. If you do these things yourself then you must take special attention while you cut the hair, since the skin of your pet is very thin and can get bruised easily as a result.
8. Apply some pet sunscreen lotion
If your pet goes outside during the day light in summer season, you must put some sunscreen lotion on its sensitive body parts like nose and inside the ears. This can protect your pet from the harmful UV rays.
9. Take special attention toward food
You must try to avoid giving the pet any rich and spicy food during the summers as such rich and spicy food can make their body heated up. You can give it various types of dry foods which are available in any local market. You can also give some liquid foods which are also very helpful.
10. Give them medical treatment
If your pet feels uncomfortable or if you realize that the behavior of your pet become abnormal, then you must give medical attention without wasting any time. You should consult any veterinary doctor and start immediate treatment of your pet.
