My rat terrier just won’t get potty trained!

I own a rat terrier and he is about 7 months I have been potty training him since he was three months old. What kind of tips can you give me potty training him? I know he is just being stubborn. I think he just likes the attention. My sister noticed that when no one is looking he would go out and do it or he would wait until the backyard is opened. Which means he has been trained and he is just doing it purposely, right? I am no dog whisperer, what does he want from me?

It is great that you own a rat terrier. By now you might have noticed that the rat terriers are independent-minded. It generally doesn't like to take commands. This is the foremost difficulty that one faces while potty training them. It is smart enough and has ways to get away without obeying orders. You really need to be strict and patient when potty training. Here are some tips to efficiently potty train your rat terrier:

1. It is always recommended to use puppy pads indoors. It is natural that the dog is not born knowing to eliminate outside.

2. Try to be consistent in your attempts. Make sure that you take it out on a stipulated time. Be open to spend enough time.

3. It is great to take the dog to a designated area in your yard. It is known that the Terriers run and play. Place it on a leash, this would prevent him from running to the neighbors or out onto the street.

4. Kennel him at night. Putting it in a crate at night, enable it to learn to hold it longer.

5. it would be great to reward it with treats when it goes potty outside.
