How can I successfully keep land hermit crabs as pets?

I am planning to start a crabitat to keep land hermit crabs as pets. So I want to know about few things from people who have done this before. What do I need to know to keep a livable crabitat for hermit crabs and keep them alive for a long time? What should I do to set up the crabitat and molting tank? I have tried keeping hermit crabs as pets before, but was unsuccessful in doing so. So I want help from you guys. How can I successfully keep land hermit crabs as pets? Please advice. Thanks.

It is great to know that you are planning to keep land hermit crabs as pets. These crabs are interesting, quiet pets. It is quite easy to take care of these. Make sure that they get proper environment and food. It is recommended to house in 10 gallon aquarium with 4 inches of sand at the bottom. Get shallow dishes for water. It is important that the crabs must be able to move in the dishes easily. Add wood, coral, aquarium decorations, and other items for climbing. It is known that the coconut shells make good hiding huts. It is important to feed the hermit crab food daily. It is good of it is supplemented with assorted fresh fruits and vegetables. Remove uneaten bits of food from the tank. Clean the tank with hot water but avoid detergents and chemicals. The tank should have a lid which is able to retain moisture. Don't overestimate the size of shells your crab. I hope these measures would help you to set the crabitat and the molting tank. Take proper care to keep them safe and happy.
