How to train dogs at home to become good guard dogs?

My 2 year old dog, Bullmastiff is quite intelligent and playful all the time; however, I want to know if there is a way out to train my dog to become a good guard dog and protect my home, at this age. Moreover, I have observed that he tends to be a little aggressive, when I break him from guarding his toy. I want to know if I can train him at home for being a little more obedient, and less aggressive. Can a professional dog trainer help me with some tips and guidance please?

I believe to help you in finding ways to train guard your dog at home. If you want to train your puppy as a guard dog, I will strongly recommend you to get help from a professional trainer. You can also do the same by following certain steps. Make sure that you try best to socialize your puppy. Familiarize with it the environment. This would make him used to traffic, people and other animals. Never allow him to chase after cats. It is always advisable to demand the dog's attention before beginning with training session. Teach verbal commands using hand signals. Often encourage your dog to bark when someone approaches the house, and when it does the same then don’t forget to appreciate it. If the person is not known, allow the dog to continue barking. It is important to train the dog to stop barking only when given the command. Instruct the dog to attack clothing not exposed flesh. Identify the areas on an intruders body that your dog should bite. Train your dog in such a way that it will not release the intruder until either its owner or a policeman gives them the command to do so. These would surely help you to train your dog at home.
