I have a teddy bear hamster and he is just amazing. There is no harm in getting hamster for yourself, all you need to do is that you have to have patience and need to work on the training of hamsters, since they tend to be very nimble and yappy sometimes. They are as obstinate as mules while learning and training comes and might become a subject of your ire. First of all, take care of their accommodation. It is a big subject of debate as the hamster needs cages which should be spacious as well as compact. The cage should be spacious, else these pets tend to become cranky and irritated. The teddy bear hamsters should have 1-2 inch bedding in their cage.
The teddy bear hamster should be given lots of chewing sticks so that s/he can nibble them because they are known for the super growth in their teeth and nails. If their teeth and nails grow continuously then you should rush them to a vet who has expertise in dealing with rodents. If you are ready to do all such activities then I would say you get the hamsters as your pets.
